This antique Heriz-Serapi piece exhibits an extraoridinary medallion design with a unique style and bold color schema. The medallion itself draws immediate attention to the center of the rug, which then propagates through the deep blue field with its earthy extensions. The guards mimic the medallion in a dichotic color-reversal and complimentary design. The geometric tendencies of the medallion are also beautifully paired with the linear flora that flow through the border and are inscribed in the guards and inner medallion. The blue-tinged abrash that garnishes the piece provides a natural depth to the rug that is simply defined as brilliant.

This Kerman rug boasts an intricate floral pattern, symmetrical through the length of the piece, with swirling vines and budding flowers dominating the field and a similarly rich border. The cream and blue colors of this piece make it highly desirable in a modern market. The large-scale buds in the field also make this piece extraordinary, especially for a Kerman with such a fine weave. The immense size of this rug only helps to fortify its grandiose presence.

As a result of their recent merger, Nazmiyal and Damoka have assembled a remarkably broad and comprehensive collection of antique rugs. Together their holdings comprise some eighty five years of effort and experience in collecting fine antique carpets of virtually every style and type. Acquired largely in the middle decades of the twentieth century, much of the Damoka collection has remained untapped for decades, offering a wide assortment of antique carpets that is essentially new to the market.

But this collection was also assembled when the cost of rugs was considerably lower than today, and now Nazmiyal Live Auctions Online plans to pass this reduced cost base on to its customers. As result, quality antique pieces will be available at prices comparable to those of forty years ago or more, perhaps even at prices comparable to those of new rugs made today. The auction is currently set for the first of June, and the rugs will available for preview online at liveauctioneers.com and in Nazmiyal’s New York Gallery throughout the month of May.

With a global economy in turmoil, conflicts raging in the Middle East and Africa, poverty and global warming, we, as a people, are facing serious challenges. During the recent US elections, America has demonstrated its belief in the “audacity of hope”. We have made a historic decision to leave behind the divisive identities that have so far kept us from working together for a common purpose. We have affirmed that the things that unite us are far more important than the issues that separate us from one another, and that to meet the challenges ahead, America must look to the future rather than the past.

On the cover of this week’s NY Magazine, Michelle Obama, Sasha, Malia, and the new hypoallergenic puppy are all grouped above one of our pieces“ a French Aubusson carpet of the First Empire period. We must note that their busy schedule did not allow them to pose above the actual carpet. The picture was achieved as a ‘Photoshop’ montage (art must sometimes take liberties in the quest for elegance) but the result is what counts!

In the new year of 2009, with an optimistic spirit, we will have the youngest First Family in the White House in more than two generations. We at Nazmiyal Collection would like to wish the President Elect, his family, and all our clients, friends and associates health, success, and prosperity for the upcoming holiday!

The influence of western dye and machine spinning technologies, along with the enormous new demand for oriental rugs that developed from the late nineteenth century onward, all contributed to a rapid decrease in quality in terms of the materials, the weave, and the designs. By the nineteen thirties it was easy to tell the difference between rugs made up to about World War One, and those made after.  Read the full article, About New Oriental Rugs & Carpets.Â
